Week 3: Finishing Design (for real this time)

After having to modify design a bit last week, we've gotten the design of the main boat approved by Martin. We'll be able to bring in materials once we have them all (meaning we can't gradually bring stuff in). We'll be looking to have all the materials ready by next week, so we can start building the boat itself. Towards the end of today we started creating a cut list to save ourselves time during the actual building phase. We also found the rods we'll be using to mount to the motor and propeller in engineering.

Week 2: Done with the Design

It's early release today, so a bit less time than usual to work. I hope you like pictures because there's a lot for today. We went to Martin to see if he can approve our design. Unfortunately, we missed (somehow) the steering on the boat 's Solidworks, so we'll add that and come back next week with the design done (for sure this time). Everything we have so far has been given a green light. Edit (2/23/18) : Here are some updated pictures with the propeller and rudders added.

Week 2: Finishing Design

So I wasn't here yesterday (Tyler), so Juan ended up finishing the Solidworks (with some minor changes to measurements) during class. Now we'll have to wait 'till tomorrow for Martin to approve the design, and then we can actually start building. The proposal is done and we know all the parts we need. Here are some pictures of the finished Solidworks of the boat frame.

Week 1: Finishing Up

We're just about done with our entire proposal, including the parts list and timeline (link included on this blog). We also are wrapping up our Solidworks of the boat, and once we get everything approved by Martin we can start building. Most of the parts are free and can be found from Juan's house and the engineering room. Oh, and we found two functioning batteries lying around in engineering. Next week we'll hopefully start gathering all our materials in engineering and start building. Unfortunately, on Wednesday there was a shooting at Stoneman Douglas. Hoping those who survived and are now in the hospital are all right.

Week 1: Part List and Design

This week we're just creating a parts list and starting to design the speedboat in Solidworks. The boat will likely be around 6 ft by 3 ft. The speedboat is powered by a 24 volt electric motor and two 12 volt batteries from the engineering room. We may add more batteries in the future. We're also thinking of adding a solar panel so the boat is capable of recharging itself. Solidworks images will be coming soon. By the way, if you want this blog's amazing background image you can find it here:
